Max Montella, the travel photographer for the Italian photo and travel blog “passamdo dal mondo,” had the opportunity to test our F:X Pro Circular Filter 3-piece Set in practice. Montella shares what you can expect from the filter set and how the circular filters performed in his test in this new article.
Montella was in Venice and photographed the view of the Grand Canal as well as the famous Ponte Vecchio arch bridge in Florence. These tourist hotspots are particularly popular in filter photography, as they allow for ideal representation of, for example, especially soft water.
First Impression of the Circular Filter Set

| Camera | Focal Length | Aperture | Exposure | ISO | Filter Strength |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sony 7R III | 28 mm | f/16 | 4 Sec. | 100 | ND8 |
The set consists of three neutral density filters in different strengths (ND8/ ND64/ ND1000), which are ideal for photographers who travel a lot and want to have a selection of different ND filters with them. The filter set comes in a sturdy cardboard cylinder, in which Montella also stores the filters for travel during transport. The F:X Pro Circular Filters themselves are screwed together and include their own metal cap for the front and back. The caps ensure that the filters are protected from impacts or dust.
The photographer highlighted that the clear labeling on the caps and filters allows for quick changes and readiness for use.

The Filter Impressions During the Test
The main feature that immediately struck Max Montella was that none of the three filters caused chromatic aberration or strange changes in the final image. According to him, the use of ND filters is also useful in broad daylight. Even by the sea, he had no problems with stray light or unwanted reflections.

| Camera | Focal Length | Aperture | Exposure | ISO | Filter Strength |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sony 7R III | 17 mm | f/5.6 | 1 Sec. | 100 | ND64 |
The high-quality material of the filter frame and the precise threading allow for easy attachment to the camera lens. According to Montella, this threading in no way interferes with attaching the lens hood or even hooking on the front cap. The Gorilla Glass® also impresses with its strong robustness! Every shot was flawless, without any loss of quality or change in color.

Montella's Conclusion
After extensive testing and gathering his impressions, Montella can only recommend the circular filter set. For travel, they are conveniently screwed together and take up little space in a backpack or bag. The low weight of the filters is also a great advantage for him when traveling with larger equipment. He sees only advantages in the filters when one wants to react individually and quickly to different lighting conditions.
