When creative ideas meet reliable technology, images are created that remain in memory. This is exactly what photographer and content creator Michael Kuschei demonstrated in a very special project: a nocturnal photo shoot on an illuminated SUP board, deep in a secluded canyon. The vision was clear – an interplay of light and shadow in complete darkness, combining the tranquility of nature with the energy of modern lighting technology.

The Lighting Composition: Subtle Instead of Garish

The shoot was carried out exclusively with our LUX continuous lights. The challenge was to make the model and the surroundings visible without destroying the nocturnal atmosphere. It was not meant to look bright as day, but to glow mysteriously – with subtle contrasts, soft contours, and targeted color accents.

For the main light, Michael placed the LUX Bi-Color 100W on a C6i tripod directly in the water. The battery grip with 99Wh capacity was mounted directly on the tripod – a stable, mobile solution that proved itself even in rough terrain. The light was set to only 25 percent power to achieve a soft backlight effect that bathed the model in a delicate silhouette.

The setup was supplemented by the LUX RGB 60W, which stood on a small embankment. It added targeted color accents and created atmospheric nuances – also operated at only 25 percent power, via a lightweight power bank. Both lamps were conveniently controlled via a smartphone app – ideal for spontaneous adjustments during the shoot.

Light Meets Atmosphere: The Moment in the Canyon

The moment the model glided calmly through the canyon on the SUP while Michael photographed from a small river island was magical. The combination of natural surroundings, targeted light, and deep darkness seemed almost surreal. Small torches provided additional atmosphere. Although the first one didn't light properly, it created a beautiful, flickering candle flame that gently modeled the model. The second torch then brought the desired effect: dense smoke settled over the water like fog, transforming the scene into a mystical dreamscape.

Between Goosebumps and Embers

A small scare was not long in coming. Sparks from the torch hit the SUP board and caused three small burn holes. The air slowly began to escape. But fortunately, the most important pictures were already in the bag by then. The model, now a bit chilled, was brought back to shore, while Michael could calmly dismantle the light setup. And despite about two hours of use, the lamps still had 80 percent battery capacity – a value that surprised even us.

Conclusion: When Technology Enables Creative Freedom

In the end, a damaged SUP remained, but a whole series of impressive shots that show what is possible when technology and creativity work together perfectly. For Michael, it was a complete success – and for us, the best proof that our LUX continuous lights are not only strong and flexible, but also absolutely suitable for outdoor use. Exactly the right tool for people who want to not just see light, but to create it.
