On his YouTube channel, photographer Stephan Wiesner mainly provides tips and tricks on all aspects of photography. He recently tested Rollei Energy's smart thermostats, as he too wants to heat efficiently and save on heating costs. In his studio, he demonstrates how to use the new thermostats and the door and window sensor in combination with the ZigBee® central unit.
At the beginning of the video, the photographer explains how to mount the smart thermostats on a radiator. Wiesner says that he is not a craftsman, but he still judges the installation as "It was easy". The thermostats are suitable for common radiator valves of type M30x1.5 and, thanks to the included adapters, can also be used for radiator valves of type Danfoss RAVL, Danfoss RA, Danfoss RAV, Giacomini, Caleffi and M28x1.5. Wiesner used this adapter and explains that he simply mounted it on his radiator by hand.

Wiesner then demonstrates how to use the device in manual mode. He measured the set temperature displayed on the device again for safety and says: "It's pretty accurate". All in all, he finds the operation in manual mode "super easy".

The thermostat's smart use works with the ZigBee® central unit. Once linked to the home WLAN network, it communicates with the thermostat via the ZigBee® radio standard. Regardless of the location, both the thermostat and the central unit can be conveniently set as desired via the free "Smart Life" smartphone app. For example, Wiesner explains the heating schedule mode, which he likes to use for himself. This allows the temperature to be selected in up to ten different plans for individual days, weekdays or weekends for any time of day.

He also finds the separately available door and window sensor practical. "When the door opens, the heating switches off. When the door is closed, the heating switches on again." And that's how simply the sensor is explained. Of course, this can also be easily set via app, as he explains in the video.

Using the smart thermostats is particularly practical for him. Since he is not always in the studio, he has set two modes for himself: "I am there, and I am not there". This way, Wiesner can easily turn on the heating in the studio via app before he leaves home, so that the studio is already pleasantly warm when he arrives. So, comfortable and efficient heating is simply available at the touch of a button.
