The diverse applications of the continuous lights from the LUMIS series only become apparent when you use them. Since every photographer has their own style and techniques, a wide variety of results and creative settings can emerge. To demonstrate the possibilities of lighting in macro and nature photography, photographer Florian Kunde was able to test two of our LUMIS Mini I-Lights in practice.

Right from the start, Florian Kunde noticed how easy it is to adjust and change the lighting mood in his pictures with these lights. In this article, you will learn which other functions and application possibilities he particularly liked during his test.

Small but mighty – the features of the small LED light stick

Even before the actual practical test, the photographer was visibly surprised. The LUMIS Mini I-Light RGB comes with numerous application possibilities, allowing you to give free rein to your creativity. These include the versatile setting options, such as variable color temperature, RGB mode, and an effects mode with 20 effects.

However, the well-thought-out design also stood out, according to Kunde. He explains exactly what he means by this in more detail. On the back of the LUMIS Mini I-Light RGB light sticks, there are magnets. This is particularly practical for placing the lights on different metallic surfaces. Magnets are also built into the ends of the lights, allowing up to three LED light sticks to be connected. Additionally, there is a tripod thread on the underside of the light, so it can be screwed onto a tripod depending on the application.

The combination of versatility and compactness is particularly exciting for the photographer, especially in his macro photography work. The lights can be used to add highlights to subjects or serve as a substitute for absent natural light, such as sunlight.

Perfectly staged with the LED light sticks

To test the lights in practice, Florian Kunde waited for the lavender in his garden to finally start blooming. This was a macro subject he had wanted to photograph for a long time. In his opinion, this was the perfect moment to put the lights through their paces. When the time finally came, the sunlight was absent, so Kunde used the two LUMIS Mini I-Lights RGB directly as an alternative light source.

For the first setup, he combined the two LED light sticks using the magnetic function and placed them on his Compact Traveler Mini M-1 tripod. He then illuminated the individual lavender branches from an oblique angle above.

In direct comparison, it is clearly visible what a different atmosphere the use of the LUMIS Mini I-Light RGB can create. While the left picture without the lights appears rather cool, it looks as if the sun is setting in the right picture.

The Mini I-Lights also impressed in the second setup, another macro subject. "Good light is very important in macro photography, as I work with a closed aperture here to consistently achieve the necessary sharpness," Florian Kunde clarified. Therefore, the extremely compact design of the lights is particularly practical, allowing them to be placed very close to the subject.

To capture the last water droplets on the leaves of his kohlrabi as a motif, he placed both lights with a different RGB color directly under the leaves. In his opinion, the shot was specifically enhanced by the lighting setup.

The photographer's conclusion

"The LUMIS Mini I-Light RGB is a well-thought-out small power light that quickly won me over," says Kunde. The price-performance ratio also played a very important role. The strong battery, which lasted up to six hours during his outdoor shoots depending on the settings, was also a big plus. Florian Kunde adds that, in addition to the many applications in photography and videography, the lights also cut a fine figure in the lifestyle sector, for example, as ambient lights.

The two LED light sticks of the LUMIS series will continue to accompany him on various photo tours in the future and help him to implement creative settings with ease.
