Photographer Stephan Wiesner Tests the New 23mm Viltrox Lens for Sony
At Rollei, in cooperation with Viltrox, we recently launched high-quality lenses that are very popular with our customers.
When we recently released the Viltrox FE-85mm f/1.8 Mk2, among others, professional photographer Stefan Wiesner tested it thoroughly for us and also published a video about it.
High-Quality Metal Feel
And now the time has come for the brand new Viltrox AF 23mm f/1.4 (E-MOUNT APS-C) for Sony. Stephan Wiesner also tested this lens and again published a video about the test.
In it, he first explains that he is very impressed with the feel. "The lens is made of metal, the lens hood is also made of metal and can be used very well - it is really very high-quality workmanship," he says.
"Nice and sharp, totally practical, very good to use"
Besides the feel, vignetting and sharpness are also a topic, explains Wiesner. He shows test images on his laptop, which were taken with the Sony Alpha 6400 with 24 megapixels. And in this area too, Stephan Wiesner is absolutely convinced by the lens. "It's really nice and sharp, totally practical, very good to use," he explains. "For an inexpensive lens at f/1.4 that's very, very good." He then shows result images of various apertures and exposure times.
A highlight of the video is a shooting, accompanied by light painting professional Olaf Schieche from Zolaq, who provides the necessary atmosphere with a fog machine. The oriental dancer and dance teacher Leocadia Lacroix from Hanover is photographed. These impressive pictures are also evaluated in the video.

Bokeh, Bokeh, Bokeh
As with the previously launched Viltrox lenses, Wiesner is again impressed by the bokeh that the lens offers, as well as its sun star. He is somewhat less fond of the flare of the lens. But, he says, that's generally a matter of taste.
Conclusion
In the video, Wiesner is absolutely convinced by the lens. He again particularly emphasizes the price-performance ratio and adds: "The lens looks very, very high-quality, as it has a lot of metal, and it is very attractively priced for what it offers, especially compared to the original lenses from Sony or Fuji, you only pay a fraction."
